…10GHz offering delivers true broadband for business…
3 December 2007 - Gateway Communications has secured a Spectrum Licence in Nigeria allowing it to enhance its Internet Access and VPN solutions. It will use the spectrum licence to launch next generation, metropolitan area networks (MAN), for example linking bank branches all across Lagos in real time and with high bandwidth. The spectrum licence enables Gateway to move away from other, potentially congested bands, to deliver true broadband for business with over 10Mbps of 'always-on' bandwidth - ensuring Nigeria retains its place in the vanguard of investing in and deploying new communication technology in Africa.
"Of late, the industry has spent much time focusing on 3.5GHz technologies such as WiMAX," said Steve Chapman, Gateway Commercial Director for Business Services. "While we feel this is invaluable for the deployment of single user devices such as laptops and eventually mobile devices, that kind of connectivity is not core to our corporate business. We address the growing demands of Nigerian businesses that require true broadband for business critical applications; a technology platform that gives users the same or better connectivity experience as they would get using ADSL in the USA, UK or Europe. Gateway Communications is building Nigerian capacity for Nigerian business; the spectrum licence means that we can keep our local internet traffic just that, local - ensuring the most cost-effective and high quality business service on the market."
Speaking from the head office in London, Gateway's CEO Peter Gbedemah said, "Gateway is committed to investing in Nigeria. We are already the biggest provider of network services to the rapidly expanding Nigerian banking sector. We are also in the process of rolling out a series of enhanced products off the back of the spectrum licence to ensure that we maintain our market leading ability to meet, not only the current needs of Nigerian business, but to ensure our clients are best placed to deliver on future requirements too."
Gateway Communications is the largest Pan-African network provider and has customers in over 40 countries. The company's customers have access to the largest private network in Africa and the highest quality connectivity on the continent. Gateway Spectrum services are available today.
